Pet Products Review - Snooza Pet Futon

Being strict with products quality and look, we had to decide among a wide variety of quality dog beds, after some research, our final decision were either Coolaroo Elevated Bed or Snooza Futon.

Basic comparisons of the 2 beds

Snooza Futon
The Snooza Futon, which was made of Australian wool (lavender warmer) to maintain comfort, was said to provide coolness during warm weather and warmth during cold weather, the cover is removable for washing machine use, it came in 3 colors - Beige, Blue & Green.

Coolaroo Elevated Bed
As for Coolaroo Elevated Bed, it was designed like a tree bed to reduce pressure on the body of dogs using breathable and stretchy fabric, this could benefit dogs with joint and back problems. Coolaroo bed comes in only green color.

Both Snooza Futon and Coolaroo bed had anti flea properties.

Why Snooza Futon for us
If we compare the benefits of the 2 products based on general knowledge, it seems that Coolaroo Elevated bed was able to provide slightly more comfort to dogs, especially for those with weaker body, however we still chose Snooza Futon in the end.

Simple, Small and Beautiful

As the Coolaroo Elevated Bed is available only in green, there were no design aspect and this was a disadvantage in our opinion, another reason is because the bed is elevated using bended steel, it made the whole product bulky, causing it to look much bigger than it should be, this takes up more unnecessary space and will not benefit us nor the dogs in any ways. For Snooza Futon, we could easily shift the bed anywhere we want to without hassle, it can also be placed on top of another object eg. sofa, bed frame(for dogs) or even on top of another dog bed, hence our final decision was to give Snooza Futon a try first.

In-depth details

Convenience
Upon using Snooza Futon, one of the dogs managed to soil the bed on the first day, we took an odor remover and spray onto the bed, then used some tissue papers to wipe the urine off the bed, surprisingly after a few repetition, the pee stain was reduced at least 90%. The covers are also removable which can be placed into the washing machine for a thorough wash, we found that the urine stains were at least 95% removed with each wash, after 3 months, the Beige cover now has slight hint of yellow, this was acceptable since the pillows are always soiled every now and then (we wash them twice a week), the covers are also sold separately if one needed to change or have extras during washing, just like how a pillow works.

Moving the futon was a bliss, we can easily change the location of the futon to every corner of the house without having to worry about taking up space, even inside the crate (3ft), there is enough space to fit a futon and a yogi pee tray side by side.

Quality
We meet different dogs almost everyday and had gotten the chance to let most of them try out the beds, some of roll on the bed, some pee on it, some enjoys digging through the covers and others may try to chew on them. After these 3 months of experimenting, we only had a slight problem whereby one of the futon covers was chewed off by a strong chewer, surprisingly there is only a small hole which can still be used without any issues. Though the covers look thin, we had no idea why it can still stand the chews of multiple dogs, our guess is that the material used for making these covers probably didn't interest the dogs in terms of smell as texture, thus they got bored of it after awhile, well this is great news nevertheless. The inner cushion had no problems withstanding different dogs, perfectly intact till now.

Innovation
Amber loves this bed just like her couch, she is the type that prefers to lie on the floor due to the cooling effect, so if we put in pillows, blanket or other bedding in attempt to make her feel comfortable, she would just flip them away most of the time. After introducing Amber to the Snooza Futon, she started to lie on it the second day, subsequently she got better and would randomly sleep/rest on top of it. As for other dogs, they seemed to love it very much, most would just sleep on it right away, some gets possessive of it during free roaming and may attempt to pee/mark on the futons.

For us, we did give the futon a try by holding onto it and also sitting on top to have a feel, it didn't have that kind of warm/cool effect but what we noticed is that the bed never feels hot no matter the weather, meaning on both cool and hot weathers the bed still feels comfortable in terms of temperature, it is also relatively thin in terms of thickness, some may feel that thin doesn't feel comfortable but for us we feel that the thinness helps to keep the futon cool and also fits the shape of dogs, this will make them feel more secure without having to overheat their body unlike regular thick foam beds.

Design
Snooza futon comes in 3 colors - Beige, Blue and Green, as we had mentioned earlier that one of the bed was soiled a number of times throughout usage, the Beige color does helps to cover up the stain, hence even with long term use the futon would never look unsightly, the Beige cover has a trademark print in green. The Blue cover is nice for people who enjoys rich color that are not too fanciful, this color will totally cover up any stains with ease, this cover comes with a white trademark print. The last would be the Green cover, for people who likes something different, the green is pretty vibrant and like the Blue version, both of them will cover up any stains even without regular washing, this cover also comes in white trademark print.

Snooza futon is beautifully designed in our opinion, from the colors to the trademark print, it suits any interior from country to contemporary style without taking up too much space and attention.

One of the dog's favorite

Overall, Snooza futon lives up to its expectation, it is comfortable not only for the dogs, but for us humans too, just give it a sit or even lie on it and you will see why. This bed is very convenient to bring along and you can place it almost anywhere, the car, on the sofa or even on your bed. What we love most is that the cover is easily replaceable and have 3 colors to choose from, they are all machine washable and does not show any signs of aging even after months. The only weak point of Snooza Futon is that the material used for the cover is not strong enough to withstand strong and persistent chewers, that being said with untrained dogs, any bed can still be destroyed within minutes.

First time to Pasir Ris Farmway (Pet Farm)

04 Feb, my husband's colleague decided to get another puppy so he drove us to Pasir Ris Farmway to look for puppy since we wanted one as well. He already has a 1 year Male Yorkshire Terrier so he was looking for another breed to accompany his Yorkshire. The farm was really hard to get to if you do not drive a car, unless you don't mind calling a cab. It's in the deepest part of the road and there ain't any buses around. When we first went to the first shop at farmway 02, we met a very stuck-up pet owner. Very "hao lian(proud)" with his puppies and even said all his prices are very CNY, all ended with $xx88 which means good luck for the Chinese people. We saw a pretty red toy poodle but it was sold, so the shop owner told us to buy his other puppies instead since all his puppies are so-called "high quality". I think that shop was kinda overpriced for every puppy that he quoted. One of the pups that he was selling, poodle was just besides it, seek...

How to take care of your dog before and after Spay/Neuter

Many owners, especially first timers have no idea how to take care of their dogs after spay/neuter operation, owners that do not know what to expect could easily be traumatize by the experience along with their dog. This is why we have decided to come up with a tutorial on how to take proper care of your dog during the healing process. Before deciding on spaying/neutering your dog, it is good to first read up the pros and cons of doing it, don't spay/neuter your dog just because other people do it, check it up, study about it and take some time to decide.
