Products Review - Chris Christensen's Series

Brush
We decided to give Chris Christensen's products a try after our previous Madan brushes started to wear off. Chris Christensen's products are known to be one of the best in the dog show market, the quality of materials used for their brushes and combs are always voted by professional groomers to be durable, safe and comfortable for dogs. However the downside is that Chris Christensen's products are very expensive, in this case we will recommend for owners to have at least some basic understandings about dog grooming before buying.

We spent over $300 getting a few of Chris Christensen's products, mainly the #000 - 7.5inch Butter Comb, 20mm Gold Pin, Mark II Small Slicker and some conditioners. Upon receiving our items, we opened each of them up and checked the for defects thoroughly, everything was expectedly well received, no scratches or any defect noticed.

Below we will list down individual brushes/comb and our thoughts on it, note that this is not a professional review but personal opinions based on customer's point of view.

#000 - 7.5 inch - fine/coarse Buttercomb
We chose the limited edition Buttercomb which is coated in green, why it's called Buttercomb is because Chris Christensen's Buttercomb is said to glide down your dog's skin just like butter, it did really felt like butter when we tried it on Amber. This also means that the Buttercomb is so safe that even with pressure applied you won't hurt your dog's skin nor cause any discomfort during combing.

When the comb reaches matted/tangled areas, it kind of bend a little and bounce back to shape, which we felt that it is really well made since each individual tooth is relatively thin. We also purchased a snap on handle to fit onto our 7.5inch Buttercomb, the finishing was really well done and comfortable to hold on, this was a great addition for owners who felt uncomfortable holding on to the metal comb for a long period of time. We almost decided to get the Poodle Comb instead of the regular Buttercomb until we read feedbacks that Poodle Comb was more suitable for standard poodles, the handles are also very bulky at 9.5inch and might not be suitable for smaller hands.

Conclusion
In terms of comparison with Madan's comb, the Buttercomb loses out in terms of the gliding feel, which we felt that the Madan comb was a better choice for the term "Buttercomb". However, Chris Christensen's green coated series brought regular combs to a whole new level in terms of look, the snap on handle also gave the Buttercomb a better grip, which overall exceeds Madan's comb by just a little if we were to compare the price difference.

20mm Gold Pin
There are so many different models for Chris Christensen's pin brushes that it was a headache for us to decide which one to get. After days of consideration, we were finally left to decide on whether to get the Gold Pin or Fusion Pin. Fusion Pin was said to help in releasing sebum during brushing, and Gold Pin was more for massaging and comfort, sebum is a type of "healthy oil" that is released during gentle massaging of the skin, which helps to keep your dog's coat moisturized and shine. But because the Gold Pin seemed to have similar advantages, plus that this model was reviewed by most people to be more gentle and comfortable compared to other pin brushes, we decided to get the Gold Pin instead.

The 20mm Gold Pin, like the Fusion Pin, had 30% more pins compared to other series, which in my opinion is better for smaller dogs to prevent missing out on certain parts of their skin during brushing. The Gold Pin is made up of beech wood for the handle, which was said to be durable and light weight, this was the specification we got from the product description though we know nothing about wood materials.

Conclusion
The 20mm Gold Pin is the perfect size for Amber, the handle of the brush was relatively comfortable to hold onto, as for the weight it was great! I wouldn't enjoy holding a brush that is so light that I can't control the flow. The handle was coated with a brown paint, which is kind of sticky when we held for too long, but is still manageable nevertheless. As for the pins, we had no complains for it, they were perfect, the pins were inserted all the way to the base of the wood, you can feel it during brushing by giving it a little pressure. With this it helps to eliminate problems with a lot of pin brushes whereby the pins either became crooked or even come off after a period of use.

As Amber was very sensitive about anything that touches her, especially her back area, the Gold Pin seemed to work on her, we read that a lot of dogs enjoyed the massaging process so we thought Amber might just accept it, and she did! After brushing we could see that her coat becomes much softer though it did not get any shinier even after 2 months of use. We could also see that Amber's hair did not break that easily during combing nowadays. In short we really love our Gold Pin, most boarding dogs love this and would even lie down during brushing.

Mark II Slicker
We had never used any slicker on Amber because she rarely needs them, however at times when we face matted hairs especially with the dogs that come for boarding, slicker was the first thing that came into our mind. Slicker brushes should never be used by beginners because of the dangerously sharp and and fine steel wire which can scratch and even tear your dog's skin without knowing, especially with dogs that have skin problems.

The first thing I had to try was to use the Mark II Slicker on my palm to test out the feel, it felt really different compared to other slickers that we had came across, the Mark II slicker did not hurt my skin in any ways, and the fact that it was curved instead of most slickers with flat surface caught our curiosity. Right away we tested it on Amber and she did not like it as expected, however while brushing I felt that the curved design of Chris Christensen's slicker made detangling much easier. The handle was made of beech wood just like the Gold Pin but it was not painted, which gave the brush an antique look and it was beautiful. The handle, shaped awkwardly in an "S" shape was one of the best thing about the brush, you can only understand how it truly feels when you try it yourself.

Conclusion
The Mark II slicker is the perfect size for a toy dog, the whole product from the tip all the way to the handle was done very well. It will be very hard to find another slicker that can match the quality of this, the fact that Mark II slicker can be made to be so safe and easy to use is impressive. If you were wondering about pin brushes that comes with those "ball tip" to prevent hurting your dog, we will never recommend getting these as it does not help to detangle which is pointless, get Chris Christensen's slicker instead!

Shampoo/Conditioner/Solutions

Thick & Thicker conditioner
This conditioner is to be applied after shampoo, leave on for 3 minutes then wash it off. We tried it on Amber not knowing what to expect, then suddenly after blow drying we were surprised.

Amber's coat became much more fluffier and softer, it was not those soft hair that will fall flat, Amber's coat especially her head area was pointing upwards. We did not know how this happened but Thick & Thicker proved it possible, most groomers would not appreciate soft hairs that can't be styled, especially for poodles.

This conditioner also smell great and natural, in a way that it is not overpowering, it only left very faint smell on our hands after use and we love it.

Conclusion
Thick & Thicker conditioner is something that became a must for us after the first use, without it we will not be able to try different hairstyles on Amber, we are trying to maintain her head to be round like the Bichon cut and Thick & Thicker conditioner is playing a big role in helping us to achieve this goal!

First time to Pasir Ris Farmway (Pet Farm)

04 Feb, my husband's colleague decided to get another puppy so he drove us to Pasir Ris Farmway to look for puppy since we wanted one as well. He already has a 1 year Male Yorkshire Terrier so he was looking for another breed to accompany his Yorkshire. The farm was really hard to get to if you do not drive a car, unless you don't mind calling a cab. It's in the deepest part of the road and there ain't any buses around. When we first went to the first shop at farmway 02, we met a very stuck-up pet owner. Very "hao lian(proud)" with his puppies and even said all his prices are very CNY, all ended with $xx88 which means good luck for the Chinese people. We saw a pretty red toy poodle but it was sold, so the shop owner told us to buy his other puppies instead since all his puppies are so-called "high quality". I think that shop was kinda overpriced for every puppy that he quoted. One of the pups that he was selling, poodle was just besides it, seek

How to take care of your dog before and after Spay/Neuter

Many owners, especially first timers have no idea how to take care of their dogs after spay/neuter operation, owners that do not know what to expect could easily be traumatize by the experience along with their dog. This is why we have decided to come up with a tutorial on how to take proper care of your dog during the healing process. Before deciding on spaying/neutering your dog, it is good to first read up the pros and cons of doing it, don't spay/neuter your dog just because other people do it, check it up, study about it and take some time to decide. "Hope to find drivers who can remember the hit-and-run cab driver's car plate number. "The accident occurred on Saturday (30 Jun 2012), around 3pm. My sister had brought him out for a walk.
