Products Review - Sleepypod Atom Pet Carrier

Needed a pet carrier for Amber, we were looking for something small and easy to carry. Had went to many pet shops to search for a suitable pet carrier, either it was too small and uncomfortable or too overpriced. Saw one unknown brand at pet lovers selling for $90 plus, it looked presentable but inside was quite badly produced.

Finally we saw this on the internet, Sleepypod Pet Carrier, they had won numerous award for their first carrier and now they made one for small dogs and cats. We had the chance to look inside at the quality and size, at first i was afraid that Amber would not fit in when she grows into an adult but judging at the weight of up to 3.5kg for dogs, we decided to give it a go! Even if Amber grows up to over 3.5 kg and couldn't fit in we thought it should be about time we changed to a new carrier.

Amber checking out the carrier

Inside was spacious, especially the width. Amber do not have to worry about getting too fat because the width was 2 times her size! There was also a platform cushion with sponge zipped inside, it was good because if there were any accidents we could just unzip the cushion and wash it. The bag entrance for dog's head to peep out was also made nicely, we could unzip it slightly and fold it in so that Amber's head can come out without feeling uncomfortable. Most carriers would have the dog's neck touching the zip but Sleepypod Atom's design managed to prevent that.

Entrance for dog's head to peep

The bag itself was made to be unzipped all the way behind so that one can easily put their dog inside if the main entrance was too small, there was also a plastic leash built inside to hook it onto Amber's collar so that she won't fall off if she attempt to jump out. However i felt that the built-in-leash could have been made better, i would have expected a stainless steel material instead of plastic.

As for the owner's perspective of the bag, i loved that there are 2 pockets at the sides of the bag, i could slot in things that i have to bring for Amber eg. left side for food/treats and right side for toiletries. For the comfort of the carrier, i find that the strap that is to be sling-ed onto my shoulders could be made better, it seemed stressful on the shoulders after carrying for a long period of time. The bag itself already has some weight, 1.5 kg plus Amber's 2.5kg with some other items could add up to around 4kg, with the cheaply made strap it just made things harder. However, i can say that the bag itself is very durable, even with 5kg dog inside it won't be a problem due to how they connect the bottom of the strap to the bag. For the see through area, there is a front and back, where i can cover 1 side of the hole with a black plastic board provided and Amber could watch from the other side. It was made well for countries that doesn't encourage pets on places like public transport and shopping malls, i could easily cover the back with the black plastic board and place my hand in front so that other people will not suspect. Not to mention that there is a slot for fastening the buckle on cars, it is also airplane approved. There are 5 colors to choose from which looked really nice, 3 bright and vibrant colors, 2 simple ones.

hmm, which one?

This is a good investment on a high quality carrier for small dogs. We do hope that one day Sleepypod could come up with something that is not only small like Sleepypod Atom, but also comfortable for carrying.

  1. Hi, may I check, if the sleepypod atom still fits amber now? What's her weight now? How did you introduce the bag to Amber? I'm also considering getting one for my toy poodle, he's already 1.8kg at coming 3 months this sat. Thanks for all the awesome reviews and tips! I've been following and a lot of information had been real useful!

First time to Pasir Ris Farmway (Pet Farm)

04 Feb, my husband's colleague decided to get another puppy so he drove us to Pasir Ris Farmway to look for puppy since we wanted one as well. He already has a 1 year Male Yorkshire Terrier so he was looking for another breed to accompany his Yorkshire. The farm was really hard to get to if you do not drive a car, unless you don't mind calling a cab. It's in the deepest part of the road and there ain't any buses around. When we first went to the first shop at farmway 02, we met a very stuck-up pet owner. Very "hao lian(proud)" with his puppies and even said all his prices are very CNY, all ended with $xx88 which means good luck for the Chinese people. We saw a pretty red toy poodle but it was sold, so the shop owner told us to buy his other puppies instead since all his puppies are so-called "high quality". I think that shop was kinda overpriced for every puppy that he quoted. One of the pups that he was selling, poodle was just besides it, seek

How to take care of your dog before and after Spay/Neuter

Many owners, especially first timers have no idea how to take care of their dogs after spay/neuter operation, owners that do not know what to expect could easily be traumatize by the experience along with their dog. This is why we have decided to come up with a tutorial on how to take proper care of your dog during the healing process. Before deciding on spaying/neutering your dog, it is good to first read up the pros and cons of doing it, don't spay/neuter your dog just because other people do it, check it up, study about it and take some time to decide. Vet Review - Light of Life Vet

This was a very tedious search for us, finding a good vet for Amber. I researched online for many weeks before coming to a conclusion. I called most of the "recommended vets" and asked questions regarding consultation, spay and deworming. I also wanted to see whether the staffs knew what i inquired about. I would ask them stuffs like what does the spay consist, when can i take Amber home, how old should Amber be spayed and why. Some of the staffs do not even understand what i was talking about and told me to book an appointment to ask the vet what i needed to ask, so i blacklisted those clinics. I also cancelled out vets that are overly expensive and too far for transport, i do not want to make the trip back after surgery hard for Amber. Although i usually trust the internet for reviews of good vets in Singapore, i do see some ridiculous recommendations on vets based on things like "good to chat", "funny" and i even saw a thread to recommend the vet becaus
